WILD FUR AUCTION RESULTS

As trapping season winds down, the fur auction season ramps up and, in this seasonal transition, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is coyote fur prices remain stable — or even up depending on the grade of fur being sold. The bad news is that most other major furs are down, or steady at best.

BLUE FOXS ARE IN DEMAND

Over half a million blue fox skins were sold at Saga Furs auction on their March 2017 auction. The average price was around 90 euros per skin. Last year was bad with prices below production costs, but the upturn began in the December auction and looks like it will continue…

FUR IS BACK IN FASHION

Fur, fake and otherwise, is back in fashion and it’s bigger and brighter than ever… but was it really ever gone? Certainly not from the backs of Kendall Jenner and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who kept themselves shielded from the cold streets of Paris during Fashion Week. Both have been long-time fur fans, despite the controversy surrounding it.
Australian Designer Kym Ellery, is also no stranger when it comes to igniting fury from her love of fur. Just last year, she faced serious backlash from her use of it in her in label, Ellery and on the runway in her shows. Her most recent collection for autumn/winter was no different, featuring bright yellow furs that went to the floor and cool cropped jackets flaunted by the models.
