FUR MARKET WEEK, June 21 – 24/ 2010

Fur Market Week event is scheduled for the week of June 21, by Fur New York Organization and a number of leading manufacturers say they will be participating in the event & ready to introduce their new collections. For many years, Fur Market Time in the Big Apple was a two- or three-week affair, featuring formal runway shows in manufacturers’ showrooms or in top hotels and attracted wide press coverage as well as prestigious retailers from overseas. They were coordinated by the FICA, Fur Information Council of America and its predecessor organizations and were listed in the Fashion Calendar, which retailers consider a bible in the fur industry.





However buying patterns have changed in recent years, with retailers tending to buy closer to the selling season.In addition, many retailers now travel to Hong Kong, Milan or Montreal for those fairs, but still visit New York later on for certain fashions and stock fill-ins. Considering that many retailers will be coming to New York between now and October, Fur New York is trying to re-package Market Time as an event that will again make the market more viable and, at the same time, draw press coverage that could be beneficial to all. The organization is sweetening the pot by obtaining discounts for retailers at area hotels and is offering to subsidize a portion of those costs for those who register before June 10. Its own annual party, will be held June 22 at the new Parlour Restaurant in the heart of the market.
