Kopenhagen Fur Auction Report – June 2012

Well known top lot buyer did it again

As the economy in Turkey is growing, the country's fur business also sees great progress. An example of this is the fact that Mr. Coskun Köluk from Turkey, General Manager of Tasari Kürkmod, in the recent seasons has bought several top lots at Kopenhagen Fur's auctions.

At Kopenhagen Fur's June auction, Mr. Coskun Köluk bought the male top lot Palomino Velvet for 1320 DKK (223 USD) per skin.

- I simply like the excitement of bidding for the top lot, so I always try to compete for it. I regard the top lot as a very prestigious purchase, Mr. Coskun Köluk says.

The purchase of the top lot also buys Mr. Coskun Köluk the privilege to show three styles on Kopenhagen Fur's gala show at the Beijing Fur Fair in January 2013. Mr. Coskun Köluk plans to use the top lot skins to create those styles under the Tasari Kürkmod's brand Gata Fur.

- I think an initiative like letting us show 3 styles at Beijing Fur Fair strengthens both Tasari Kürkmod and Kopenhagen Fur. For my company, I definitely see the benefit of getting the exposure outside Turkey, especially in China, Coskun Köluk says.

The auction's other mink top lot, Stardust females, was bought by China Fur Commodities Co. Ltd for their customer Beijing Weiernuo Fashion Co., Ltd., who owns the brand VLLRNO. The sales prize was 700 DKK (118 USD).

Chinchilla specialist buys top lot

The June auction's chinchilla-top lot was bought by Mr. Iordanis Michailidis, who owns IMPEL Luxury Furs, for 700 DKK (118 USD).

Mr. Iordanis Michailidis is a veteran in the chinchilla business with nearly two decades specializing in chinchilla dealing and manufacturing, but he did not buy the top lot for himself.

- I bought it for a customer who ordered a special jacket and only wants the best quality. That is why I bought the chinchilla top lot here at Kopenhagen Fur. Because they offer the best, Mr. Iordanis Michailidis says.

Mr. Iordanis Michailidis owns a range of high-end boutiques around the world, where he sells his own chinchilla products.

Satisfactory start at the Kopenhagen Fur June auction

During the 2012-season the fur trade have experienced massive price increases on mink skins at The Kopenhagen Fur auctions. This led to record-high prices and a historically high auction turnover peaking at the auction in April. The first selling days at the June auction took off with prices going from record-high to very high on the blue mink types.

Male skins in the blue types experienced a slight price-drop, whereas the females experienced a stronger sale staying close to the record-high level from April. CEO at Kopenhagen Fur, Torben Nielsen, calls this an expected development in the market, a statement based on the auction results from North-America and Finland. The demand for blue skin types has been met and he sees the slight price-drop as a natural consequence of this.

- Demand on mink skins continues to be high and the skins are sold at a very satisfying price-level securing profitability in the production of mink skins, says Torben Nielsen.

He stresses that the markets are experiencing a moderate price-drop, even though we are experiencing a very strong dollar-price, and the CEO welcomes the slight price-drop as a welcome turn of events for the entire business.

The first two days of sale have presented a price-drop on blue skin types ranging from 5-15 percent compared to the record-high prices at the April Auction. The cross-types are sold at a very high price level.

The offering consisted of 4.9 million mink skins, along with a wide collection of foxes, chinchillas, swakara, karakul and various other skin types.

Below you will find a detailed summary of the sales result of regular skins in the largest types. The deviation is the difference in price in Danish kroner compared to the previous auction in April 2012
